U heeft vast wel bij stil gestaan bij de vraag waar al deze mensen vandaan kamen.  In 2013 opent het Red Star Line Museum zijn deuren in Antwerpen.  Het museum vertelt het verhaal van de mensen die vertrokken vanuit Antwerpen, alles en iedereen achterlatend, op zoek naar hun grote droom. The stories of the millions of immigrants arriving in the Promised Land are leaving an impressive memory to every visitor.

Ever wondered where they came from? In Antwerp a new museum is due to open in 2013: the Red Star Line Museum. The museum is telling the story of all those people, starting their trip in Antwerp, leaving everything and everyone behind.  Before the opening we are offered the possibility to take a sneak preview of the museum and this from the 28th April till 13th May… Don’t miss out on this opportunity!

Nu zondag, 22 april, is het weer zo ver. De speciale ervaring om door de stad te lopen en door tunnels te gaan die normaal enkel voorbehouden zijn voor wagen en trucks, maken dit een unieke belevenis.

DVV Antwerp 10 Miles

Elk jaar vallen er wel enkele speciale deelnemers op, en dat is dit jaar niet anders… Het gerucht doet de ronde dat Bart De Wever ook zijn loopschoenen aantrekt en de 29.000 deelnemers vervoegt. Voor diegenen die Bart De Wever niet kennen, hij is een nationale politucus voor de opositiepartij NVA en is geboren en getogen in Antwerpen.  Tot zover niet speciaals ware het niet dat hij een hele metamorfose heeft ondergaan.  Sind begin dit jaar is hij door een combinatie van dieet en training in totaal al 45kg vermagerd.  Zijn volgende uitdaging is nu dus het uitlopen van de 10-miles.  Als u nog op zoek was naar een extra motivatie om deel te nemen of als u zin heeft om de deelnemers aan te moedingen… Van harte welkom!

This year the date is set for next Sunday, April 22nd. The unique experience of running through the city, passing tunnels that are normally exclusively reserved for cars and trucks, make this a unique event.

Antwerp 10 Miles & Marathon

Every year we have some surprises when it comes to special participants. And this year is not different… The rumour has spread that Bart De Wever is going to join the 29.000 runners. For those who don’t know Bart De Wever, he is a national politician (Opposite party: NVA) originating from and living in Antwerp. So far nothing special, yet what makes it special is the transformation he went trough. Since January, Bart De Wever lost almost 45kg following a strict diet and intense training. His next challenge now is to end the 10-miles. If you are looking for an extra motivation to participate, or if you want to support the runners… You are welcome!

At the International Dance Music Awards in Miami, the dance festival was nominated for the second year in a row, but where they ended as a runner-up at last year’s election, they were now chosen as the world’s number one!

When Tomorrowland first began just 8 year ago, the festival welcomed 10.000 spectators. Last year they counted 180.000 visitors.

Just looking at a picture of the main stage makes it easier to understand what makes this festival so special.

Maar wie is die Quinten Matsijs, of Metsijs, zoals hij ook wel wordt genoemd? Quinten Matsijs is geboren in Leuven in 1466 en overleden in Antwerpen in het jaar 1530. Hij is gekend als de laatste vertegenwoordiger van de Vlaams Primitieven en als één van de oprichters van de Antwerpse School.

Het merendeel van zijn werken zijn religieus van aard en normaal enkel te bezichtigen in het Museum van Schone Kunsten. Wegens, of dank zij, de totale renovatie van dit museum zijn een aantal extreem mooie triptieken te bezichtigen in hun natuurlijke habitat, de Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Kathedraal.  Naast Quinten Matsijs, worden ook andere meesterwerken tentoongesteld in deze schitterende omgeving.

But who is this Quinten Matsijs, or Metsijs as some say? Quinten Matsijs was born in the Flemish town of Leuven in 1466 and died here in Antwerp in 1530. He is known as the last representative of the Flemish Primitives and as one of the founders of the Antwerp School.

Quinten Matsijs

The majority of his works are of a religious kind and most can be visited in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels. Thanks to the total renovation of the museum a pair of extremely beautiful triptychs, measuring up to 5 meters wide and 3 meters tall, were returned to their original home in the Cathedral of Our Lady, Antwerp. Apart from Quinten Matsijs work, several other masterpieces are on display in the magnificent cathedral including many impressive pieces by Rueben’s. The cathedral is just over 1.5km walk (20 minutes) from our hotel and a must-see attraction.

The DVV Antwerp Marathon will take place on Sunday 22nd of April. This run is a must for each sportive person. As you can see on the pictures, the run is really for everybody. Sports people who want to break the record of the year, and those who want to have fun.
